Born in Brooklyn, NY to Haitian parents (Marie-Carmel Blanchard and Mario De' Volcy) and although

having lived in Haiti until the age of 6, Soraya Denis is a proud product of her native home town of East Flatbush. Soraya Denis is a recent graduate of St. John's University class of 2010, where she received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership (concentration on Public Policy). She attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice and gained her Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. Soraya plans on continuing her education and is working on candidacy for a Doctoral Program.

Soraya has worked in all levels of government, (from Department of Justice; Homeland Security and presently a NYC Agency) and understands the importance of civic duty/ civil obligations of public service. Having worked in a New York City social service agency at the start of her post graduate career, she realized the importance of great leadership and how it affects public policy.

On a 2008 trip to Haiti, the vision to have a water project based on educating communities on sanitation, hygiene and waste-management was born. Alongside a team of dedicated Board Members,  Team Leaders and Volunteers, Soraya hopes to take this organization to its greatest level of servitude to Haiti

CS: What are your short term and long term goals for Dlo Pou VIv? (Examples: where do you see yourself 6 months from now and then 2 years from now?)

My short term goals for the next 6 months is to introduce our ideas and plans to the masses. That includes NGO's and NPO's that are already in the field of PHASE and promoting clean water. Field work is needed, our plans are to go to Haiti, and meet with the 2 partners (Water School and Light and Peace Missions) on the ground and began a strategic plan to begin the programs.
In the next 2 years of course we want a recognized and respected program based on PHASE, implemented in the schools. We don't want to go and solely provide access to clean water without educating the communities and offering them the tools needed treat and maintain their own water systems.
