Homegrown energy and relaxed vibes define downtown Miami, while most of the areas of the Country was getting ready or heading to Washington for the inauguration of the first African American elected as President; while the rest of the nation was prepping for winter, the Sunshine State provided the perfect atmosphere for an outdoor music event for those who did not want to be bothered with the cold.

The 6th Annual Independence Festival held at Bayfront Park with a line up which originally included Djakout Mizik, T-Vice, Suave, Gabel, Hangout, Kassav, Krezi Mizik, Nu Look, RockFam, Carimi and Zenglen.  However, as reported by HaitianBeatz weeks before the event Kassav would not be able to make it. Also, at the press conference, we were informed Haiti based band, Krezi Mizik would also not be in attendance due to Visa issues of some members of the band. Starting  at 5:55 pm exactly, with Rose Pierre-Louis singing the US anthem and Martine Marseille filling up for Josiah Boisrond who was supposed to sing ours national but was unfortunately late to the park, the Fest went smoothly after that.  The venue, which is located adjacent to the American Airlines arena, was this year location due to the Amphitheater being renovated by the city of Miami. For the folks who have been to the fest before this was a little strange but I will say it was also refreshing in its own way.... Stage was low enough to ensure a clear view from Media people to the spectators although not really secure to held a festival ...I think if proper arrangements are done this could be a nice venue for the fest. The festival organizers did a great job plugging fillers in between the main acts and stage management was at its best...This year INDYFEST finish on time and everybody got a chance to play ...Even Surprised solo appearance were able to get their 5 mns of fame. Carel Pedre known as the Ryan Secreast of Haiti was flown to be the co-host of this year festival along with HMI female star Virginia Mahotierre and NY DJ Bobby Jam.
