Haitian Beatz

Last week–end the Haitian-Canadian professional basketball superstar of the famed basketball club the Philadelphia 76ers, Samuel Dalembert through the Samuel Dalembert Foundation (SDF), invited me with a group of children affiliated with the Simact Foundation, the Gaskov Clergé Foundation and the Evangelical Crusade to join him in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia 76ers played a very intense and close game against the Miami Heat. The 76ers won the game 88/75.

The story of Samuel Dalembert began in 1980 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he was born and later moved to Montreal, Canada at the age of two. A bona fide soccer player, he excelled at midfield. After watching the prowess of Dr. J (Julius Erving) on the basketball court, Samuel took an interest in the game of basketball at the age of fifteen while in High school. Samuel moved from Montreal to New Jersey where he played brilliantly at Saint Patrick High School. He then attended Seton Hall University and was drafted 26th overall in 2001 by the Sixers, now in his eight season. Samuel dedicates his off time to work with his Foundation and partners.

The Samuel Dalembert Foundation seeks to better the lives of the people of Haiti and children all over the world through projects that empower individuals to seek out and achieve sustainable improvements in their daily lives.
