Spectacular, heartwarming and strong are the words to describe Wednesday, March 25th, 2009, one-night-only theatrical concert event, Breaking The Silence, Beating The Drum, on the floor of the
General Assembly Hall OF THE United Nations, a co-presentation by the Culture Project and the United Nations. This event was in commemoration of the ‘International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade' - marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, and the widespread abuses of human trafficking.

The evening was hosted by CCH Founder, of the TV show, The Shield. Many Poets, writers, singers, actors and many others gathered to show their respect and to pay homage to the beauty that is black culture. Many artists of the African Diaspora participated including: Akon/Peter Buffet, Whoopi Goldberg, Salif Keita, Nile Rodgers, Cameroon Drummers, Ban Ki Moon/Father D'Escoto, Blind Boys of Alabama, Danny Glover, Gilberto Gil, Carl Lewis, Ky-Mani Marley with Nile Rodgers, Stacyann Chin, Angela Brown, Salif Keita/Toumani Diabate, Audrey Babcock with Daisy Jopling, Gabri Christa Troupe, Stew, Sarah Jones, Lenelle Moise, Izaline Calister, Phylicia Rashad, Bill T. Jones, Liev Schreiber, Noah Stewart/Lester Lynch, and The Impact Theatre Group.
