“Konbit Pou Ayiti: Harlem Stage Unites for Haiti” took place on Saturday July 17 , featuring some of the greatest artists that Haitian has to offer. It was a free outdoor community event presented
by Harlem Stage to celebrate Haitian culture through pan-Caribbean performances in music, dance, and spoken word. The five-hour event was comprised of activities for the whole family, including the building of a “Tower of Power” commemorative sculpture. A special tribute by Emeline Michel to Benji Jolicoeur, a dancer lost in the Haitian earthquake.
Emeline Michel was the artistic director and invited all the Haitian artists that were present. Nadege Fleurimond served as co-producer. The performers were: Ase Dance Collective, Los Terrys (Cuban Band), Mika Ben, Emeline Michel, Eddy Francois and legendary Haitian band, Tabou Combo. The accompanied band comprised of: Frederic lasfargeas, keys, Philippe Laraque, guitar, Adrian legagneur, bass, Emedin Rivera, congas, Carol Hodge, drums, Daniel Bernard Roumain, violin and Sergo Decius, congas. Background vocals: Meredith Augustin, Myriam Barthelus and Elektra , lead singer of the group Phantoms.
